The Donation Box for 9-14 ~ For the Kiddies

We were pretty happy with the contents of the donation box for 9-14.  Most of this was geared toward the kids this week but I’m sure the adults will enjoy the items as well. We purchased quite a few of the Dole Smoothie shakers for free over several shopping trips in the past couple weeks plus we had some in the freezer. We also purchase  several boxes of cereal this week and I thinned out our pantry stock to add a few more boxes for the donation.  I also wanted to donate a significant number of the Quaker bars.  These are great snacks for the kids to take to school for a snack break or to include in their lunches.  I know my son loves these for his mid-day snack at school! (So does mom since there’s no prep involved!)

I’m in the process of gathering our non food items to donate to the Salvation Army.  I’ve been putting this off since we have some items other than our standard out-grown clothes box but I found that you can go online and schedule a pickup

We’ve had a microwave sitting in the back room for a while and I’m going to check the freezer we’ve had in our garage and see if it still works and then go online and request a pickup of those items in addition to the clothes.  How convenient is that?! So if you’ve been putting off the haul of items you were planning to donate.. just have them pick it up!

We’ve decided to make it a mission this weekend to do one good deed. We haven’t figured out what that is yet but we’ll probably find some opportunity while we’re out. Maybe we’ll buy someone’s lunch or help with groceries or something else to pay it forward. There’s always opportunities out there if you look.  I’ve been a little down lately with hubby out of town a lot so I feel like I need to do a little something extra to make myself smile. If you haven’t ever done a random act of kindness, try it.  You’ll be surprised at how good it will make YOU feel to know that you took a moment out of the super busy hectic schedule to make someone else’s day. Helping others isn’t a completely selfless act.  You definitely get something out of it!Smile

The Donation Box
If you’re new and/or not familiar with what The Donation Box is, this is a box we keep in a corner of our house that we add items to all week for a Saturday morning delivery to the local   Co-op Ministries  . Since we’ve been couponing, we have grown a nice stockpile of items so now we try to put some aside and do our small part to help others. (You can view our other delivery posts  here  ).  Other than a little extra time, there is no reason for us to pass up a free or ridiculously cheap deal… we know someone needs those items! Our boxes usually include a combination of things we purchased the current week and items from our stockpile that we have overstocked. We hope we inspire others to do the same!
Whether it’s a donation of money, time, or items.. it all matters to someone!

Do you do something similar? We’d love to read about it in the comments section!
